Over-hyped & needs more development.
As one would expect, the Scout RX3 is attractively & robustly designed. Its ability to vacuum efficiently on carpet & hard floors is undoubted & impressive. However, it’s questionable whether relying on cameras & “hit & run” logic rather than LiDAR to navigate & control manoeuvring is the best option & there are times when its lack of ability to make progress leaves it floundering pathetically. The remote control seems of limited use – how often would anyone want to steer a robot everywhere or just set it off to wander or get stuck wherever it may? The Miele Scout App should be the way to get the best out of the RX3 but, frankly, the control concept is badly flawed. Even if one can get the Scout to keep going without any fault codes appearing for long enough to map a complete floor, editing a saved map on a smartphone screen is infuriatingly fiddly & impractical: using a tablet is far more appropriate. There is no option to retain an incomplete map & resume after resolving a fault code. The App also only has capacity for just 2 saved maps, which is unhelpfully restrictive. The ability to use the RX3 remotely as a roving security camera, while interesting, is of marginal real-world utility. It’s to be hoped that Miele could improve upon this, & not just for future models, as people who have paid the price deserve a more reliable performance. Far too often the RX3 stops with a fault code which proves to be inappropriate – in particular F8, F4, & occasionally F2. Obviously one can only expect the machine to function reliably if it is properly cleaned & maintained after each use, but mine repeatedly claims the front wheel is soiled or the drive wheels are impeded when there is literally nothing affecting them at all, leaving me to question whether the sensors are reliably calibrated. I’ve long been a Miele fan & the RX3 is the twelfth Miele appliance in our house, but I’m afraid that as a labour-saving device it has proved to be somewhat disappointing & frustrating & has thus failed to live up to expectations.
