Grinding noises in wash cabinet

Grinding noises can be heard in the dishwasher’s wash cabinet at the start of a programme or after 75 % of the programme sequence.

A foreign object (such as a cherry stone or a small shard of glass) could be blocking the drain pump. The drain pump or the non-return valve may be blocked.

Switch the dishwasher off.

Remove the filter combination from the wash cabinet.

Scoop the water out of the wash cabinet using a small container.

Press the catch for the non-return valve inwards (1).

Tilt the non-return valve inwards until it is released (2).

Rinse the non-return valve thoroughly under running water and remove any foreign objects.

The drain pump is situated under the non-return valve.

Carefully remove all foreign objects from the drain pump (watch out for glass splinters, which are particularly difficult to see). Check the drain pump impeller by manually turning it. You will feel a little resistance when you turn the impeller.

Carefully refit the non-return valve and lock in position with the safety clamp.

If the process described above does not resolve the problem, start any programme without the non-return valve and without the filter combination. Allow the programme to run for approx. 10–15 seconds. This will cause the impeller to rotate, removing any foreign objects that may be lodged there.

Additional information can be found in the linked video.

Model-specific information about faults and how to clean the drain pump and non-return valve can be found in the operating instructions.
